:-tap I grabbed a set of sway bars off a mid 70s camper special a couple of years ago with intentions of fitting them on my 66 short box. I didnt see how the rear bar mounts, it looks like it mounts below the axle with the arms extending rearward, is this correct?I tried fitting the bar over the axle but my shocks (air) and the vent breather/brakeline T on the tube are in the way and the links seem to long. I saw pictures of a front end instalation and got an idea on how to mount to my I beams, but the rear has me a little stumped . Maybe i'll have to look under a couple of effies down the street.
If you could post a pic it would help.. The style of rear sway bar that I used came on a dana rear axle. It bolts on the axle tube next to the center section with u-bots. The bar faces foward and the links mount on the outside framrail. It does cause interfernce with the vent/brake line block. I plan on making new lines and turning the block 90 degrees for room. The shocks bolt on the same mounting point with the sway bar and are a tight fit. My dana axle had no provisions for shocks so it worked out ok. I only need to add the frame brackets to connect them. Clearance on the top of the axle housing to sway bar is tight at full droop, but as the suspension travels it creates more room. The donor axle probably had lugs welded on the tube to locate the brackets and prevent slippage.
I picked up both front and rear for my 70 off of a newer truck, forgot the year, still in the 70's. I spent the longest time trying to figure out the rear one. I ended up with it below the axle and the ends toward the rear.
