I will try to make this a short story...
I bought a truck last fall and decided to add air conditioning and a new five speed transmission. The shop doing the work told me that it would take about a week and a half.....a little over two months later I got my truck back. One day short of a week the block cracked and I decided to put in a new Ford Racing 302....shop told me two weeks, three at the most. Well it is now three weeks and with a little luck the engine will be in the shop today. Now it will be another week and a half. I am getting a new Heidts suspension while it is there.
Obviously I am looking forward to getting her back, I go in at least once a week for "visitation".
Thanks for listening...just needed to vent.
too bad but that's the way it is in MANY shops that think they walk with god and nothing is their fault. I'm 67 and people are still lying to me in the same situations. I won't detail my tales of woe but they're much the same. if I had behaved like that when I was a building contractor I would consider myself a failure....and I'm not. there just doesn't seem to be any time related integrity in this game we play in. my time is at least as valuable as theirs. it makes me furious that you and I get the shaft when we should be getting jobs well done and on time.

Are you handing them all the parts when you take it in? If they didn't have the A/C kit and 5-sp, clutch, flywheel, etc. in hand, there's no way they could buy it all and install it in a week and a half. Same for the IFS and a new engine in 3 weeks. IMO their error is in not telling you that once they have the parts, it will take that long. Even so, they are way optimistic, probably hoping to get the work.
It really is not the shops fault........the first time the wrong brackets came in. This time the engine was on back order....I really do like the guys at the shop, they really do fantastic work and the time frame that they finish it in is acceptable.
My rant was mostly about not being able to drive my truck.
This time when the truck was in the shop it was much easier than the last time because before I had doubts as to whether the old flat head could handle the air conditioning, with about 340hp I am imagining what kind of "fun" I can have.
Did you happen to buy that truck from a guy that lives off of happy Valley Road? The truck looks very familiar. I believe that I bought some parts from the previous owner.

You're going to have a blast with that horsepower. Especially with the 5 speed. Buy a couple extra tires for the rear.
The 300 horse GM crate motor I'm putting in my 53 with a Muncie M22 was scary fast in the IH Scout I had it in before, and that thing weighed 1500 lbs more than the Effie. I'm upgrading to Vortec heads so that'll put it in the 330 horse range. I can't wait.
Yes I did...Bought it last fall.
I am happy with it, but as with all things there are items that I would have done differently. If I had to do it all over again I think I would have started from scratch. It definitely would have been less expensive.
giesterfarher....I cannot express how much I am looking forward to driving it. I am old enough and responsible enough to not light em up at every light, but young enough to be able to say that it will be temptation.
It still has the factory size wheel with BFGoodrich tires...I have picked out the new wheels and tires. It also has the factory rear end, I will change it when I do the tires and wheels.

I highly recommend getting a 9 inch. They're especially handy if you build a collection of drop out centers with different ratios. You can go from Saturday night cruise (Light to Light drag) gears to long legged freeway gears, and everything in between in about 20 minutes. I put one in every vehicle I own, regardless of the nameplate. There isn't a rear end out there that has a larger aftermarket following, so you'll never have trouble finding goodies for it.
