For those of you who haven't met Blue, this is my 91.
I picked it up a month ago and this is my first diesel truck so please excuse all my dumb questions as this is my first time getting into one of these trucks. So far I love it and I have been going through fixing the little things like the steering gear and I made a homemade intake for a 7.3 that came in it. I still have to overhaul the oil cooler because it is leaving small puddles where ever I park at night.

I found a guy selling a 7.3 IDIT that is in need of a sleeve in one cylinder. Oh, and it's painted CAT YELLOW!! Whatever, it is getting stripped down right so I can get the block to the machine shop. More updates and pics to follow...
Thanks guys. My plans for the build is to get it stripped down to bare block so that I can send it into PER in Portland. I had a lengthy conversation with one of the guys there about taking on this project. He was very firmiliar with our engines and the cavitation issues. He was aware of what sleeve to use and pressure tests that followed, so I feel pretty confident moving foward with these guys.
Believe it or not this engine was just rebuilt so the rods and pistons are new, the PO just took a gamble on the old block. Once it hydrolocked, he took it out and there you go. The turbo is solid as far as shaft play goes and the teardown is going great. I have some more pics I'll upload in a minute.
I plan to get a cam and 90cc pump from R&D Performance for the reassembly and run it like that for a little while until I am ready to get intercooled and maybe a turbo upgrade. Those are my immediate plans anyways.
My poor 1k engine stand. I shaved a little weight off before I put it on the stand but I still put a 2x4 under the balancer just to ease a little weight. As of today I have the exhaust, turbo, harness, IP, fuel lines, and intake all off now. Making my way...
When I initially hooked up to my cherry picker, I snapped the little sensor on top of the turbo. You can see it in the close up pic. What sensor is that?
That motor has nice parts, but they are bolt on. FWIW I would not sleeve a 7.3 when you can get another block for minimal dollars. For pumps and hi-po parts, check out R&D performance. He is arguably the front runner in IDI technology. Since this is your first diesel truck, I would walk softly into your build. These motors were not intended to be screamers, but work horses. There are guys out there who are making great strides in improving their performance, but they have tools and parts, and experience at their fingertips. If I were you. I would look for another block, go through it, and do a mild build to get it back on the road. Then go through the forum and educate yourself on the limitations and possible potential of this motor. I don't know how fast you want to go, but I have two of these trucks that have all of the power that I need as work trucks. As haulers, they lack some performance, but they will get you there without spending big on parts.

P.S. The truck looks great. I would kill to have a CC. Not sure what sensor you are referring to, but unless I am mistaken, the only sensor on the top of the 093 ats (which is what that looks like to me) is the boost pressure feed, really not a sensor at all, just an air pressure tube that goes to a mechanical air pressure gauge if you have one.

I am not completely new to diesels, I was a diesel mechanic for the Army for 7 years but this is the first diesel truck of my own. Working on a fleet of Detroit military trucks is a whole lot different than working on my own 7.3....out of my own pocket.

The guy at the machine shop told me the sleeve was going to be $150 and the honing and install would be $140. I didn't get a price from him about the pressure test afterwards.
I will keep my eyes out for a donor block though. No difference between the two bare blocks?
The IDIT block is a little different than the 7.3 NA, but you can use an NA block if you drill and tap the oil sending port to the larger size needed for the turbo oil feed line. Just curious, what is the scoop on the engine that's in the truck? Is it about done and the IDIT is the replacement or??? I wouldn't be too afraid of one or two repair sleeves if it is the lipped type and the guy knows what he is doing. Buying used engines in search of a good block is another gamble. You might go through a few before you get a good rebuildable block. Do you know if your IDIT is stock bore or did the guy who built it go overbore? Very nice looking truck, thanks for sharing!

I'm not sure what you are referring to, but that little canister with the hose going to it from the compressor housing is the wastegate. Is that what you mean?
