I have an '83 F100 3 speed. I have been trying to remove the shift collar to replace but can't quite get to it. I have removed the steering wheel, and the items up to the ignition module. I have also lowered the steering column and released the ignition rod so that didn't hold me back. But I can't get the ignition module off the column! I have removed 4 screws I think, two bolts and a retaining pin from the shaft and it still doesn't come off. Am I missing something? Is there a trick? I tried turning the key and pulling. I removed the key unit and tried. Still nothing. Anyone have any first hand knowledge of getting this sucker off the column? Thanks.
The ignition switch (the module is under the hood) itself fits into a holder that's part of the column, the switch itself IIRC is held on with two 10 mm nuts. Maybe you're trying to remove something that isn't intended to ever be removed? The plastic switch assembly is pretty easy, it just pulls right off.
Sorry. My terminally is wrong. It is the unit that houses the key that I am trying to remove from the steering column. It is part number 3511 from the diagram that you provided previously for the shift lever removal. Thanks.
I'm in California without any of my books, maybe Gary or somebody can post the steering column disassembly instructions from his shop manual. Steering columns are intricate assemblies with lots of small parts, worse if you have tilt wheel....
I remember from having done mine, though (without column shifter) there are 3 small screws that are accessed from the back side, you need to contort yourself pretty seriously to see inside of there from the back.
I am stuck at between 4 minutes and a little later than 5 minutes in this video. Mine didn't just slip off like he said his did. This is the same video that you provided on my previous post. Thanks.
What are you trying to fix? The key tumbler pulls right out if you put a small punch in a little hole and push it in to release it. If you do not have the little hole, sometimes you do have to pull the column apart a little bit to get to the release pin.

Amen. But, you have to have the key. And a little bitty punch.
