I own 99 Expy,XLT,4.6L 4X4.
Just recently had a catback exhaust system installed.
I read somewhere that you should reset the computer.
Is this true?
If so why, and can I do it myself(i don't believe the muffler shop did).
Disconnect the battery (pos. and neg.) for 15 -20 minutes. After reconnecting, your gauges should peg out at max for a second, letting you know the reset was successful.
I must have messed that up, because BigMatt told me the same thing about resetting the computer, and it didnt work for me. I left the battery terminals off for about an hour. I do say that after my gear change, I had Ford reset my computer, and now things are awesome.

Tooltime - I have a feeling that not all the computers max out the needles when reset. A couple of guys on here said that their needles didn't jump.
IMO, leaving the cables off for an hour will definitely reset the ECU. I'm going to look into other methods of resetting the computer. I'll let you know what I find.
