I have an '11 Supercrew 4X4. Have been running the stock Pirellis 275/55/20 but need new ones and I want an all terrain type tire. I know there are many opinions about tires, but I am curious if anyone has experienced the Cooper Discoverer ATPs? Reportedly, they have not been out too terribly long in this tire size. I know the guys pretty well at my local Discount Tire and they recommend them ... saying for the ride and the cost, they are hard to beat. Any feedback is welcomed. THANKS
ATP's are supposed to be slightly more aggressive than the AT3's
I was never disappointed with the AT3's or the older ATR's. they were everything you could possibly want in a AT tire. even backing trailers up hill in light mud never presented a problem.
i'd give the ATP's a try in a heartbeat if the price was right.
If you drive any, and I mean ANY gravel roads, stay away from Cooper tires. They will not last. I drove gravel roads every day for 34 years and Cooper lasted the least of anything we tried. I wouldn't put Coopers on anything I own.

JMO,

Not my experience. I live on a gravel road and there is not a paved road for 20 miles. They hold up great.
I don't know about the gravel roads, because I do not live on one, BUT, I run COOPER AT3's on my 2002 K/R. They hold up well. AND, I will buy another set when these are done !!!
Glad to see your results are vastly different than ours were.
I managed a Secondary Roads Department for 34 years. I never saw anywhere near 25,000 from Cooper tires. Not a single vehicle in our fleet did. Chunking tread, sidewall bulges, and unable to keep balanced. We made a switch to Goodyear and Firestone and were getting 45-50,000 with them with none of the problems.
We haven't used Cooper for 5 or 6 years, maybe they have improved or changed by now.
Good seeing somebody having success with something.
I believe that the AT3's are rated as a 55,000 mile tire.
I rotate mine EVERY oil change, keep properly inflated, and balance as needed. I got over 87,000 out of the last set. THIS set only has about 7k on them.
I put a set of COOPER CS4's on my 1995 T-Bird, (they've only got about 2k on them). a set of CS4's on both my boys cars. One is a '98 Escort ZX2 Cool, that he has put maybe 5k on, and my other sons '95 Monte Carlo, and he's put I have no idea how many on it, 'cause I don't think the car EVER COOLS OFF.
But all of them are rotated every oil change, and air pressure maintained.
I had some on my boat trailer, but couldn't get the ones I wanted in a 14" tire, so I went to a Hercules tire.
