1971 F100 Custom

Hello Bumpsiders:

It looks like I am coming to the bumpside of this forum.....I bought a 71 yesterday and going to sell my dent. I will be searching lots of things but wanted to show off my find.

As you can tell from the picture it has AC and it has explorer on it. The guy said it was an explorer package. I need to do some research on that. It also has power steering and power brakes.

It was this kids grandfathers and he inherited it after he passed....the teenager then proceeded to install an aftermarket steering wheel, a horn button, running lights, a aftermarket temp gauge that needs a toggle switch to work and while doing that kind of hacked up the wiring. Speedo does not work nor does the oil gauge so I have some work cut out for me but body is the straightest I has seen in a long time so should turn out to be a good project.

^ Aftermarket, not factory installed. ^

Customs did not come with door trim panels or upper side mouldings unless equipped with optional Explorer package.

This truck has optional factory installed integral A/C that is combined with the heater. Unusual to see this type of expensive A/C in a Custom.

Notice the additional glove located within the A/C's bezel. Open the dash glove box, you'll see it has a very short liner. This is because the A/C's expansion valve is located behind it.

Front bumper with horizontal bumper pads is from a 1973/77 & 1978 (before serial number AG0,001) F100/350 Ranger XLT.

Wheels and outside mirrors are aftermarket. 1969/72 Explorers came with unique 'mag type' wheel covers, not 'dog dish' hubcaps.

Step bumper is also aftermarket. Ford did offer an optional chrome step bumper, but this isn't it.

ND it does have explorer package. From what I have read about that package the only thing they didnt get was the toolbox in the bed.

ND can you please post the link to the exploded view of the explorer option AC you posted? I need to try and find all the cables for it if possible. I have a couple that are broken.

Never mind I found it on fordification.....there are i believe 4 different cables for this unit from the controls. 2 cables to one lever. How do I find who may have them like you do? Is there a longer part number that is not showing on the schematic?

Im not sure if there length is from end to end or end of housing....either way I am not getting exact same dimensions so guess I will have to wing it some.

1968/72 F100/350 with factory installed integral A/C that is combined with the heater

Pic in post 5 shows all four of these cables and where they attach/route to, but you may not be able to see them clearly, if your computer has a small screen.

Parts catalog pics only show basic part numbers (example: 18518 - 18548 - 18552 - 19988). The text section is required to get the complete part number by adding the prefix and suffix.

Factory A/C was optional for all 1968/72 F100/350's, not just with the Explorer package.
