I went to an auction and picked up 2 JBL 10" subs ($20). They are "Jbl, power,gt 102 series ,130-260peak watt.
1. ARe they any good?
2. Can you test them without building a box?
3. What can I do with the stock 95 f250 deck,front & rear speakers?
4.didnt realy need to upgrade from stock but would be nice to pound out some hardcore base... might throw a couple hundred bucks at it but thats it?
5. Can I hide'em somewhere in my reg. cab (looks tight)?
Basicly what should i do with'em now that i got'em.
JBL power series and GT series subs are decent. They are a nice low-priced sub.
You *could* test a sub hanging free-air, but you really have to power them very very lightly(this is how some people "break in" their subs. However, I dont recommend it.
If your planning on upgrading, the stock head unit should be the first thing to go. Youll notice a huge difference-even with your factory speakers still installed. After that, than consider new speakers.
Since they are 10", you may be able to put them in truck boxes behind the seat. Youll have to measure it out to see.
By the way, a good amp to power those with would be the JBL BP150.1 or the BP300.1. These are both easily found on ebay for just over $100.
The JBL 300.1 Smokey reccomended would work great. The 150.1 might generate too little power. The 300.1 will sqeeze everything those subs have to offer. It will also put out full power whether the subs are dual 4 ohm, dual 2 ohm, or single 4 ohm. So you can't go wrong. Grab a sealed truck box for the subs. Like most mainstream 10's, they will probably sound their best in a sealed box of about .7-.9 cubic ft, each. This box, those 2 subs, and the JBL 300.1 will pound out some pretty impactful bass. For $20 subs, you will be MIGHTY impressed.
Other upgrades, in order of importance...
Head Unit (CD Player). Most anything by Pioneer, Alpine, Eclipse, Kenwood, or Panasonic will be good. They will make you stock speakers sound a thousand times better. Next would be new front speakers. Then an amp for the front speakers. Just keep the rear speakers stock.
