I got a call from James on New Years Day saying he was just calling a friend to wish them a happy new year. So, I'm supposed to bite my tongue and let a friend of mine walk into that buzz saw? Yeah, right!
I told him I would buy him a 6 pack if he changed the plugs.I probably better show up with a 12 pack.
The "M" designation is the compact. So the BPMR6F is a compact. The 6 seems to be the common heat range. I am trying to decipher some of the others on the list also. The BPM6F is the same, but non resistor. That may interfere with the radio so it's out.
I need to find out what Accel's heat number is in their coding.
Remember that American heat ranges are the opposite of the rest of the world.
This was stated in yesterday's NGK link on heat ranges.
You probably want a 5/8 socket to gain the most clearance.
Peanut or lawnmower style plug.
Looks like either we used the same site or at least they agree on the last several. What brand do you want to use? We can then find out which way to go in their numbering scheme to go a step or two colder.
Yep, and tell him he gets a can after every plug is changed. He will need it.
By the way, didn't we modify a plug socket on the lathe? Made it narrower and shorter? If so, you may need it.
I'm trying to decode plug heat ranges, but am not getting there very fast. Hopefully Jim will provide the answer soon.
Yes we did modify one. Hindsight being 20/20 I should have taken those copper header gaskets and matched them to the outside of the header flange so there wouldn't be any interference like we were having. That extra gasket meat hanging over the sides after installation sure caused a lot of trouble. I could have drawn it out with a sharpie and taken a dremel tool or die grinder to it and not had as hard of a time with the plugs.
Accel goes the opposite way of NGK of course, but I couldn't find if it was 1-10 or 1-infinity, but I guess it doesnt matter a 275 or 274 will be cooler. I just need to see if the crosses I listed above for Accel to NGK will jive with what I am thinking. IOW if I cross an Accel 275S to NGK it should be BPMR7F I hope.
