Im sure this has been answered but I don't have a computer and for whatever reason the search function won't work off my phone. Anyways I'm planning on putting a 68 f250 2wd body on a 78 f150 4x4 chassis. I was able to find out that I can use the rad support and inner fenders from the 78, my big question is about the 2" difference in length. I'm going to take the 2" outta the frame, I'm planning to do that between the 1st and 2nd set of box mounting holes. I know I have to drill new holes in the box but will the bed crossmembers line up with the existing holes in the frame? Or will I be drilling the frame as well? I'm a ways out on the swap as the donor chassis is buried in the snow and I still have to patch the cab up. I just don't like surprises, and it's a lot easier to put the box on once as its hard to wrangle up help sometimes! Thanks!!
Curt, I might also suggest pulling the cab & front clip as one piece so you don't have to unbolt and realign the fenders. It's not a lot of weight just big and bulky. Remove the hood, run a strap through the doors and attach top of rad support and lift.
Do you really need to shorten the long bed trucks? I put my 65 shorty on a 79 shorty frame and didn't have to shorten that. Only thing I had to cut was the tail end of the rear of the frame for bed clearance. all the mount holes even line up.
The inner fenders and radiator support are shot on the 68 so I'll be using that stuff from the 78. Otherwise I'd swap it as one. The wheelbase is 2" longer on the 78. 68 is 131" and the 78 is 133". They must have kept the short bed wheelbase the same, if only I could have been as lucky!

same with the shorty, but everything lines up and you can't notice the difference, the wheel wells are so big it isn't noticable.
