well im new to this site and need help re wiring my 65 ford. while I was in Iraq I told my dad my plans for it and he started the process but the wiring is so jacked up. he put a 302 motor and tranny out of an 84 Lincoln in it but I don't know where to begin with the wiring. I want it down to just motor no computers. and was hoping someone could help me out with this
I believe you should be able to find a schematic on line somewhere. Your truck is typical of most trucks this age. the wiring has been butchered so bad it's cheaper and easier to just get a new wiring harness. Something from the after market is the easiest way to go.
Also determine if the engine was fuel injected or carbureted before going much further. One of Ford's not better ideas was to change the firing order on these. Yup, the fuelie is different that the carb
The easiest way is to get an aftermarket replacement harness. I have used both Painless and American Auto Wire brands to completely wire a few different Chevy Nova's. There are a few threads on here with members recommending EZWire harness's, and they are very reasonbly priced. That is what i will use on my 66 that I am rebuilding. Here is a link Wiring Harness
thanks a lot guys it is a carb and some how my dad managed to make a chevy distributer work on the thing so that's one more thing to fix

If it's already there, I say use it. While I prefer Duraspark, there's a lot positive to be said about needing only one wire for the ignition. The price is reasonable too. Wish they made it for y blocks
First and Foremost, Welcome to FTE!! If don't intend adding more than a couple additional circuits there's a reproduction harness made for the 64-67 Ford pickup, understand few of the Ford part supplier's carry them. Last I checked, there are no reproduction dash harness and unless it's totally thrashed the harness can be repaired. I used plastic ties to keep each trunk separate while repairing a particular circuit, and harness wrap when reassembled, it's non adhesive, just used the electricians tape to secure the end. Purchased a set for my 65 thru Mr. Mustang Inc., same wire color codes and connectors, matter of unplugging the old and plug in the new. Only purchased the 3 main harnesses; alternator, headlight and tailing harness, this was several years ago and cost around $250. If considering, can post pic's of a couple harnesses taken before they were installed, and copy of the price list that's several years old??? Again, welcome and looking forward to your input.
