Blowby

Hey guys this engine is freshly built with maybe 4000 miles on it had some issues being first time build had a lot of clattering took her to machine shop found out pushrods were 100 thousandths short got it back ran okay but then I noticed it had a lot of blowby idk if it was the shop or what any idea on this rings, head gasket etc... PVC works. If I get on it it will pop my dipstick out and throw oil all over headers and undercarriage quite a bit of oil. It kind of chugges when a loads put to the engine in high gear like goin up hills.Plan on a compression test tomorrow.
94 f150 5.8

Blowing dipstick out means high crankcase psi.

Thoughts are...
Oil level to high
PCV valve hose restricted
Fresh air intake tube restricted
Rings not seated..? Synthetic oil used to early after break in?...

When did the blowby start? Before or after pushrod length was corrected?

Did you build this engine or did a shop do it?

something has gone horribly wrong.

time for a leak-down test; unless, of course, a shop did this, then they should probably pay to have it towed in and make good on their work.

That's exactly where I was headed. Something like .010 pistons in .030 holes or ring gaps to big or clocked wrong or who knows what.

the leak-down test will give you more leverage with the shop than a compression test. since you did the top end they could well try to point the finger at your work, rather than their own. if a leak-down test shows that leakage is past the rings then they should make it right.

Head gasket seems probable cause. At this point, I would be inclined to bite the bullet, pull engine.

Reason I say this is because once coolant has been cycled in the crank and internals, it acts like acid on bearings and iron.

A fresh set of bearings on crank and rods would be 1st on my list. Yeah its lengthy now, but it may prove a burden later down the road. Also doing major R&R with it still in truck may seem worthy, but its hard on the back, knees, and neck. On an engine stand proves so much easier and less lip biting if you make a mistake that cost more hours when its still in the truck.

Others may chime in to prove me otherwise.

I did the lower end of my 460 in the truck and NEVER AGAIN will I do that! I could have pulled it out and put it back in the time I spent walking around the shop saying bad words!
