First fuel pump lasted 143k miles then three fuel pumps in 14 months total of 15k miles? Anyone have any idea whats happening? The mechanic says i should always leave a half tank of gas all the time. He says when i run it down to 1/8 tank i am burning up pumps? This sound likely to anyone?
This pump just failed after 3,000 miles. Installed three months ago.
Cheap Chinese junk? I had an 01 Taurus that burned through 3 "new" pumps in 4 months after the original lasted for 10 years. Kept replacing them with the cheapest one available. I was unaware of any underlying electrical issues that may have contributed. I sold the car and always wondered what kind of luck the next guy had. I got dang good at replacing fuel pumps, I'll tell you that.
I have only had issues when putting in cheap pumps. I have always tried to use Walbro pumps.
In fact the one 255LPH Walbro pump in my Mustang is getting on 12 years now of high performance use. The only trouble I had was a clamp coming loose on the pump. caused a bit of a lean-out issue.
As for keeping the tank at a certain level to keep the pump cool, I call an Experienced Bull!
