That dreaded set screw
So there I was trying to get the door latch mech. out of my passenger door when all of a sudden I remember the set screw for the lock. I've got all the screws out holding the mech and handle parts out, so I figure I'll hose it with some PB and try it tomorrow. Out of curiosity and only 10 minutes of soaking I put the allen wrench in there and give it a try. It turns with moderate effort. Yay! But I still can't get the contraption out of there. Is there a trick to it or am I going to have to take the regulator for the window out first? I think I might have to but want to make sure first. I suppose if I do I'll take the door off and lay it down while I operate on it. Any ideas would be very cool.

Hey guys, got the lock out.I'm trying to get the latch mech. out so I can fix the hole the rod for the outside handle goes through. Been trying to roll the wjndow up or down to get the inside handle piece out of it's hole. Didn't want to cut the rivet on the rod that connects the two. Suppose if I did cut the rivet I could replace it with a stove bolt and a nylock nut. Thanks for the replies.

Well I finally got the darned thing out. Thanks for the tip Ross.Tried two separate times and got frustrated. Didn't want to break the window and all that. The back of my hand is healing nicely. Went back this am and it popped right out. So now I know why the door handle wouldn't work. Anyone have an idea how to fix this or is it a replace it sort of thing?

The outer handle would spin around with a pause as the rod that passes through the hole tried to engage what was left of the square opening it went through. I'll have to fiddle around with it tomorrow and see what I can do for it. The rods are close to the same size as the old school door *****. I have a few of those sets in the shop. The only thing about those is that the part that takes the rod for the **** is cast iron.
