390 2V carb replacement
Been working out the many bugs on the F250 I aquired about a year ago. Truck must have been sitting for a long time. Not long after I got the truck, I started purchasing different parts that I thought should be replaced, trying to make the old girl somewhat dependable. Have been taking the beast on the 100 mile round trip to work lately, and it has been doing well, really enjoy driving the truck. I purchased a stock rebuilt carb from autozone awhile back, and just got around to making the swap and ran into a couple things I wasn't sure about , so here I am. First, the heat tube port on the old carb choke was plugged off with a plastic cap, there isn't anything laying around that it might have been hooked up to at one point, and I am not sure what it was supposed to be hooked up to originally to work properly. Next...The choke on the new carb has a terminal for one wire, the ford shop manual I have shows a wire from the alternator going directly to this terminal, currently there isn't a wire hooked to this terminal on the alternator. The carb that was on the truck has two terminals on the choke housing, one wire is going to a small plastic box that is mounted on one of the intake manifold bolts, the other is tapped into wiring behind the driver side valve cover. The "plastic box" is getting power from the battery side of the solenoid switch. I am thinking this little plastic box with the wires going to the choke may have been some type of emission device installed at some time to comply with smog laws, it is about the only thing in the wiring that looks added on. Should I remove this little box with the wiring to the choke, and wire the single wire from the new choke to the alternator as the manual shows? What about the heat tube to the port on the choke, doesn't seem right being plugged off, I could fab a new tube, but where does it go??.Any advise appreciated,Thanks..... Tom
relay) are likely an aftermarket electric choke upgrade. Have similar in my 74 CC. Keep it a ditch the crappy heat tube style choke. The heat tube port ran to the passengers side exhaust manifold.
