2005 Expedition

I have never had any major problems with my Expedition until yesterday. While driving on my way home the truck started to idle low, sputter and backfire when stepping on the gas, started to shake at 45 mph, engine light is on, and code reader will not read anything after taking it to two auto stores. Has this happened to anyone and if so could you please help me?

First thing I'd check is the infamous PCV elbow at the back of the intake.
(Not sure if it is back there on the '05 - 4.6 or 5.4? Someone will know.)

Fuel pump issue or misfire would top my list of possibilities.

If you have replaced the pcv elbow, have you changed your fuel filter before?
