Same thing. There is one in there where he removes the windshield wipers and plastic surrounding it but I didn't understand all that. If you do get into it you should mark everything, especially the cams up on top. I was thinking about using vice grips on the cam so it won't move when you release the adjuster plunger. They have a tool for that but it's not needed. If the chain touches together in the middle it is probably shot but some people just replace the 2 chain guides, 2 adjuster shoes, and 2 adjusters.
I never did one but from what I read not all chains are marked and some people don't use the cam holding tool. I think if you mark everything you will be OK, and don't move the crank. Some people usually just replace the 4 guides and the adjusters which get ruined by running low on oil at some point. Again, if you can touch the chains together inside they are probably shot.
thanks for posting this. Exactly what I was looking for !!!!! If ye shall have any more engine manual pirate booty I would be in heaven 💁♀️I’m working on my first engine ever.

Happy to help! Let me know if there's anything else you need.
This guy has great videos. Get a Melling oil pump while you're in that far. It's tough to get the pickup tube off and back on, but it can be done. Stuff rags or something in the oil pan so you don't spend 3 hours trying to fish a bolt back out. There are pictures in the "2000X weekend warrior" thread. I believe I bought the Cloyes timing set.
I did timing chains, gears and guides on a 4.6 V8 in an explorer. The 5.4/6.8 should be very similar but easier to access.
I ignored some of the suggestions. I never got the cam lock tool. I broke the bolts loose on the cam while the original chain was in place. It was perfectly simple to line up the marks and get it all back in right.
I also removed the radiator and AC condenser. I have a vac pump so i just refilled the AC when I was done. Totally worth it to have the whole front of the engine available.
The itself was really easy. The challenges were all stupid things like the power steering pump and the harmonic balancer.
