So I just bought my self a genuine 70's vanning van!
1977 E100 Custom, 300 straight 6, 3 speed on the tree!
All original interior converted back in the late 70's and untouched since.
Needs minor interior work (broken roof vent caused slight water damage to roof) and put back the original radio and CB in the overhead console, clean up and that's about it.
Needs a clutch and a wheel cylinder as far as mechanical stuff, otherwise, good to go, rust free top to bottom other than a couple light spots here and there. Runs good, burns oil on start up, but clears up after a couple minutes (probably dry valve seals).
Mileage reads 31k km, no idea how many times it's been around, but can't be much, as the pedals have no wear on them, and engine is very clean.
The van is in s storage and will remain there till the snow melts, as I have no room for it now anyways, and place it's froze to the ground
John the first step is to admit you've got an addiction problem!
Not only did you get another nice looking van. You got one with a 300 and manual transmission!! I think you'll like working on that 300 compared to your IDI powered vans!
It kind of reminds me of my old 78 E100 shorty van. It had the same rims, fender flares and bubble windows. But mine was red and black and had a grille guard. And it was a 351W with a 4spd manual ( 3spd with OD ) .
Ah, those were the years. **** carpeting made a lot of sense inside a van--we actually had it put into an '86 GMC Turtle Top conversion when we had the interior upgraded by a van shop. Makes sense for carrying bicycles and stuff.
I also had a '78 F100 short bed flareside with a 300 inch six and a 4 speed OD so I remember those days well. A bud had a '75 shorty E150 with a 351 and a 3 on the tree and that sucker had a LOT of guts.
I miss manual transmissions in bigger trucks. (I've got manuals in my Subaru Forester and in my old BMW 318is.)
And wow, I opened the hood, and talk about empty engine bay compared to my Diesel vans. Doing the clutch and a tune up on this thing will be a walk in the park!
After doing head gaskets on my Diesel van with the engine still in the van, anything is a walk in the park actually LOL
The fact that this is a 3 speed is one major reason why I bought it. Always wanted a 3 on the tree. This one feels nice and tight to.
If ever I have problems with it though, I have a 3spd + OD out of a 1980 van, floor shift 4 speed that is that I can swap in this one.
But I'd rather keep the 3 on the tree for the classicness of it
I've been doing a ton of work to it and it is coming along nicely. My biggest gripe is the sloppy pedals and shifter. I'll have to find new parts for those. How does yours do?
I can't drive the van yet as it needs a clutch, and it's frozen to the ground, but sitting there engine running, clutch in, it shifts in all gears great! Feels nice and tight, no slop at all, pedals are solid to.
I can't wait for all this white **** to melt the hell away so I can get to doing my projects, and fix this gem and drive it

Good news! I forget how big Ontario is; I am in Grosse Pointe, MI and my house is 4 miles across Lake St. Clair from Windsor (also in Ontario)....you are sure a bit north of that!
We are seeing a lot of grass here in Detroit as the snow has been melting, but despite it being late March, winter ain't over yet. The snow we have left sure isn't white any more, though
Good luck in extricating that van and getting it going. I showed my wife the pics and she said she could imagine the smell of the interior. (Our first van was a '73 Ford E200 flatnose Turtle Top conversion...with the traditional leaky Turtle Top that was concave with age.)
