Well the first baptism was me proclaiming my faith in my Savoir,Jesus. The second was a hair more entertaining. I am a long time member, short time poster.always got PM on previous truck done at Ford. In trying to save a dime and educate my self I am doing it my self this go round. I have put in time in the 6.0 tech folder, and am on page 156 of 6.0 forums. The tech folder is very informative and I thank all contributers. As taker i am grateful. First stop was oil change.5w40 full synthetic, motorcraft filter per tech folder. Next time i will go under the truck with more than 2.5gal jug,not so fresh feeling laying in oil.Note to self, 2 2.5 g buckets. No worries cause diesel fuel rinsed me right off. Got new HFCM,updated plug and motorcraft fuel filter in as well.So then i carefully reach inside truck and cycle ign.She fires right up.At the urging of most in this forum i. Also had a scangauge2 to program. But a shower and change of clothes was first.Programming was slow but i peckedAway.
Ha ha, that is funny. Sorry for laughing at your expense, but I was shocked by the amount of oil that came out of the engine the first time I pulled the plug.
Yall slather it on thick. But seriously, delta aside,is the coolant a little cool or is the oil hot. Those numbers came from 5mile drive to supper,3miles at 70 mph on I95 and 2 miles 20-35 mph in town. Oil temp strikes me as normal, but i do not know.
Personally,, I wouldn't recommend a thermostat until a coolant flush and an oil cooler. I see this a bunch. I believe a stuck tstat wil help keep the oil temp lower.
First check the two temps after the truck sits overnight to make sure the SCll is programmed correctly and the sending units are good. ECT, EOT should be within one or two degrees of each other. Next for the test to be valid you need to drive the truck 15 to 20 miles at highway speeds so that the engine is evenly heat saturated. 60 to 65 mph on level ground. I would also change the t-stat and repeat the test just using water so as not to waste coolant. After meeting all three of these criteria if the deltas are still out of wack then it's cooler time.
