You hear about it happening but you never expect to have it happen to you.

I had it happen on my 67 years back. Scared the crap out of me. The night before I raced a 68 impala on the interstate. We hit speeds around 100 to 110, he left me sitting still. Next morning, heading to work, the hood came up at about 35 mph. I lost all sight of the road. I am so glad it did not happen the night before.
Did you do the Ace Ventura move?

Your hood did not have a safety catch? If not you need to install one on the new hood. It looks like your cab didn't get hurt, nor your windshield.
Did you look at the cab real good?
I know it sucks.
Do you have any leads on another hood?
Somewhere on this forum are some posts with problem solving for the hood.

No leads on a new hood but I've asked a guy out by a auto wrecker in the middle of nowhere (the good kind) for help and I'm going down the Puyallup, WA swap meet on Sunday.
It can be fixed, but I think it would be cheaper to buy a new one.
Damn I feel for you such a nice truck you have I admire it everytime you post pics. Any damage besides just the hood? Funny this happen as I seen that thread the other day about these hoods coming up. Makes me want a second way to hold the hood besides the factory hood lock.

As stated, chain and lock.
I'm pretty sure there's a safety latch but either way, it doesn't matter anymore! There's a small dent on the roof where the hood hit it. Oh well.

Could've been worse, that's for sure.
Small dent on the roof. Just yesterday actually I was commenting to my dad about how I'd heard these hoods pop up easy. I jinxed myself.

It only "Doesn't matter" now because of what's happened. But it does matter for trouble shooting. Find out what gave, then correct the problem.
Every problem has a solution.
I used to re-create accidents, I did this to be able to prove my drivers were innocent. I found fault in equipment most of the time, and fault part of the time on drivers. The main thing is, I look at things as a problem and how can I prevent it from happening to me.
Believe it or not, the hood on my 64 flew up once with my then five year old daughter, luckily we were going about five MPH (no safety catch) the hood raised as we were leaving from a stop sign no damage but I needed to find a solution. I immediately found and attached a safety catch.

No but I have done that before.
Here's how it went down.
*Cruising along at 55mph.*
Hmm, my mirror is out of adjustment. I'll fix that when I park.
CLANG. What? *watches hood rise up* BANG. Holy ****!
*full second trying to mentally process what the hell just happened*
Think quick! Uhh, look under the hood! Nope. Can't see under. Uhh, foot off gas, apply brake. Window! Nope. Window's rolled up. No time. Uhh, mirrors. Maintain lane position, slow down to a stop. Pull over.

A yea sorry t see these classic get wrecked in any way. Lucky you did not run off the road or worse..
I've got my hood with a clear plastic coated 1/8" cable with a eye looped end pad locked going down to the front cross member. It center behind the grille brace where it can't be seen easily, like a chain.

Just have to laugh sometimes...looking on local Craigslist to see if maybe there is a hood there, and I see all these chevy and GM's in the same age group as our beloved bumps.
They are advertised for 8000, 9000, up to 21000 bucks.
What is it that make these guys think up these prices.
I mean, they price them at 10x what a bump sells for, yet a bump is 10x the truck these GM's and chevys are....
Just makes me shake my head in wonder.

It maybe easier to find a mid 70's hood an get it mounted to your bumpside.
As, I see about 3 bumps to 1 dents in the JY's now days.
