heres a run down
changed timing chain and gears (positive everything is lined up correctly there)
new dizzy and put a timing pointer on the cover (po took it off)
now setting the timing to 10* btdc on #1 compression stroke but it will not run
if I turn the dizzy counterclockwise about 1/4 inch it will fire right up but has a major loss of power
the more I turn it the better power but the worse spark knock and clacking
please help here
why wont it run on factory time and it wont even start 10* or farther btdc
When you changed the distributor, did you record the rotor position and make certain the new unit went in with the rotor in the same position? Also, when you stabbed in the new one, did you take into consideration the helical cut on the gear when starting it into place? It may be off by one tooth in one direction or the other. Worst case is you may have to start from scratch and find TDC again. Cylinder 1 is first on the pass side. I'd start by trying one tooth to either side...
