Power Steering Flush?

I'm looking into doing a power steering flush to our 2005 F250 with about 95,000 miles.

I was just wondering I know it takes special transmission fluid and see here on the site that it takes Mercon V ATF but when I checked at the auto part store they tell me it takes Mercon LV?

They recommended me to use Valvoline Max Life Full Synthetic Multi-Vehicle ATF. They said it is recommended for Dex/Merc & Mercon LV.

Before I do anything I want to double check?

I found another local auto part store who carries the Motorcraft Mercon LV but again I want to double check?

Do I go with any of these or do I just go to dealership and just buy something from there?

Thanks again, Ory

The power steering takes Mercon V. The transmission takes Mercon LV or SP. They are NOT compatible and should not be mixed.

So Valvoline or Catrol Mercon V would be ok? I wonder why the guy at auto part store when he checked his computer told me Mercon LV when I told him I was doing a power steering flush?

Because most autoparts stores don't have a clue what these trucks really need to be maintained correctly. That's why we're here.

There's also a BIG difference between a partsMAN and a parts clerk.

Here is a video of the steering flush on a 2004 6.0L. It's better if the front wheels are off the ground. This truck was parked on gravel.

As I recall, the guy in that video made a mess. I ran a clear line from the brake booster to a container on the ground and crimped the old line running to the ps reservoir. This way, nothing leaked anywhere and I could see when the fluid ran clear while I added fluid. I did not bother to lift the front end off the ground but did turn the steering box to help flush.

Yes he did. He didn't put the line he disconnected at a higher level. You can see a moist area by the cowling.
