If you have read my posts yesterday, you know the story. If not, here's the short version. Was considering selling my 2007 Silverado to restore an old Ford. Bold move to make. After looking around on craigslist I see that many adds are willing to trade. Actually there was an old Ford (now sold though) for trade on atv, and/or boat. Well guess what I have both that I don't use. So now I'm thinking that maybe I can trade my atv and boat that I don't use even up (or sell them). Long shot but maybe it can happen. Then I would still have my new truck and the old for trial. And if it won't work out I can sell it. Get to know it a little bit before I make a bold decision to sell the newer one. Baby steps.
So now to the next step in learning what these Old Fords have to offer.
What I'm looking for:
1973-1979 Era F250 Crew or Super Cab 4x4 (bed length is not important)
What are the questions I need to ask for somebody that doesn't know what to look for in these old Fords?
Engine Sizes?
Different Transmissions?
Different Gears?
Common body or part faults?
Anything else, Etc.?
73 to 76 were the V8 FE engines, 360-390 or 300 I-6, 77 to 79 V8 335 engines, 351M-400 or 300 I-6. C6 auto transmission for all years/engines and NP435 4 speed manual for all engines. I'm not sure if the T18 or T19 4 speed was also available. 3.54 & 4.10 are the most common gear ratios. Supercab only available 78 & 79, the Crew Cab I believe was available from 75 to 79. Rust around the cab mounts, floorboards and cab corners.
There is a lot of info in the FAQ's at the top of the section and find the High Boy post that has a lot of info in it.
