Dry Timing Gears
Dry Timing Gears
I'm getting ready to rebuild my '76 F-100 w/300 -6. When I removed the timing gear cover, I noticed the gears were very dry, hardly any oil on them. Is this normal? When I parked it the oil pressure was @ 40 psi/idle, so I'm pretty sure oil pump is o.k. Any info will be greatly appreciated.
Dry Timing Gears
The engine started knocking after I installed a new head, the problem was the #1 conrod bearing was shot, so I decided to just do a complete overhaul; that's when I noticed the timing gears. They looked like they haven't had any oil on them in months. Surprisingly they don't show much wear, but I plan on changing them anyway.
