What are your guys thoughts? Should I bother throwing this in my engine when I replace the lifters (lifter came with the truck and I figure I might as well throw them in for the heck of it sometime)?
**EDIT** I've done some reading on it and it sounds like a pretty sweet cam, but I'm still kinda curious about what y'all have to say about it
The wire looms turned out really nice! congrats on the 390 Here's a pic of my auxiliary tank, it looks very similar to yours. I don't believe it's factory installed, it looks to be aftermarket as there's no sending unit, and it has a manual tank selector valve mounted on the floor. Is yours the same? (btw it held nearly 30gal when I topped it off)

Thanks man! Yeah I'm pretty stoked about the engine That's a really similar tank but the inboard part on mine is a bit narrower, holds somewhere around 21 gallons. Not sure about the sending unit on it yet but I don't have any tank selector. The in-cab tank was removed and the auxiliary is all i have on it now.

Cool, I had just figured it was a tank that someone had fabbed up to fit, didn't know it was a dealer option either

You got that right! It could almost double as a skidplate just kidding, but yeah, definitely a bomb proof piece of hardware we got
....is there a small hole between your DS door and seat where a tank selector switch once was? I would think you must have had one there at some point.
I forgot to look today but I haven't seen one, I actually think that the whole DS door pillar was replaced at one point because I haven't seen any sign of where the old in-cab tank filler neck was and there's a sticker on the inside with a late 90s date (can't remember for sure but I think it was like '97 or '99). TBH, I haven't really started looking hard at anything body-wise, just trying to work out all the mechanical stuff at the moment
Well today was interesting...made some headway and lost some too. To start off, I noticed my carb was equipped with an electronic choke and the PO had had a manual choke on for some reason or another, so...I figured I would try and switch it back. I spent about an hour last night watching YouTubes and reading Edelbrock manuals and some forum posts I found on google. I felt pretty confident I could do it in a couple hours so I jumped into it this afternoon, starting with figuring out the wiring and where I'd try and hook up to a good switched power source. I now know for fact that as soon as I can afford it, I will be re-wiring the entire electrical system . It's been hacked, chopped and spliced in so many areas and so many ways that I am thoroughly disgusted, I couldn't even find a half decent location to hook up to a switched source, ended up sharing one with the stereo in a very not-so-great kinda way . After that I figured it should all be uphill from there and started working on adjusting the choke. After a good while and many trial & errors it still wasn't satisfactory . Also, while reading up on the carb I noticed that my tranny modulator vacuum hose was hooked up to a different port that was recommended so I swapped that to the correct one. Now before everyone tells me I'm a fool for changing for than one thing at a time, I do know that I should have waited to do the vacuum line but...oh well...
Anyways, I finally got her running (ended up just zip-tying the choke open so I could get it started) and she sounded a little smoother, but I could still hear that knocking from earlier from around the #2 or #3 cyliders (see links) and went scrounging to find stuff to make a quick stethoscope to try and pinpoint it's origin. I left it idling while I was looking inside for stuff and looked out the window and low & behold, she was puking her guts out on my folks' driveway I am fairly confident though that quite a few of my problems are carb related, including the rough idle when in gear, just gotta work out all the ghosts and bugs, any help here would be super awesome!
Here's the YouTube links for my engine knocking/tapping. The exhaust manifold-to-downpipe gasket is leaking a good bit but it also sounds like some internal noise as well. Any professional opinion would be hugely appreciated!!
Nice tho I have a 460 and its the original motorcraft. Got my truck started today as well... Not to highjack this post but was wanting to say I hear ya on that one.

Nice! Start a thread for it and post some pics! I really wanna see it. I'm also curious to see how you deal with any problems you run across with it
EDIT* I must have woken up on the idiot side of bed today :P Just saw that you already created a thread, my bad Let me know if you want help figuring out how to upload pics
I put up the thread already but can't load pictures yet. But will as soon as I can. Btw its getting a 460 and transmission from 71 Lincoln. But yeah I'll keep up the post.
Awesome man, let me know if ya ever need help on something, I don't know as much as most of the other guys on hear but I'm learning a ton everyday. As far as the photos go, just create a Photobucket account, it's super easy once you get the knack of it
