I am new to the forums, bought this 76 Ford F250 a couple of years ago and really want to start fixing it up. It has a new 390 in it, person who owned it before me put about $6000 grand into it including engine, transmission, exhaust and other misc parts. Just put in the door panels from LMC and thought I would post some pics of the "Beast" (that's what the kids call it). One of the pics is the hood after cleaning a spot and waxing it, what a difference it makes in the look of the paint. Now I have to do the rest of it. Enjoy.
Looks like a clean truck! It could use a good cut and buff, but that's nothing big. It looks like a good straight body without rust too, that's a nice find.
Great truck! Does it happen to have a factory installed Holley 4 barrel carb on it? I have been trying to find someone who has a 76 F250 with the 390/4 barrel carb to figure out a vacuum line connection on an engine I have. My shop manuals and parts manuals don't show the vacuum routing diagram. It's kind of a long story, I can explain more if you are interested. 1976 F250's with your power train combination (Factory 390/Holley carb/4 speed) are not easy to find.
Nice truck! I just picked up a 76 F250 a few weeks ago and am starting to work on mine as well. I started with some minor upgrades since I've had an old truck before I knew what little things I needed to replace so I wouldn't be frustrated with the truck! like adding a 12v outlet and the headlights would bug me since I can't see anything with the old "yellow" light bulbs so when I ordered a replacement for the broken tail light I ordered the LMC replacement H4/9003 sealed beam housings as well, they of course don't fit. The protrusion at the back of the housing is too large to fit into the hole at the back of the adjustment bracket! yay...! I'm looking forward to seeing what you do with your truck!
Red Mercury, by all accounts my 390 is stock, I haven't pulled the air cleaner off yet, I only pulled the cover to see if I had a 360 (which I was told when I bought it) or the 390 since I was under the impression that of the two only the 390 came with a 4 barrel. I found that my secondaries were disabled, explaining why it drove like it has a two barrel. I'm too knew to fords to know if it's a holly or a ford carb that came on it stock. I'm happy to take pictures and post them in a thread if that will help you.
You are correct, the 360's never came from the factory with a 4 barrel carb. That would be great if you could take a couple of pictures and post them under my original topic below so that I don't hijack this one any further:
Basically, I am trying to figure out where one vacuum hose needs to be connected for an engine that was missing it's original air cleaner. I found another air cleaner, but there is no vacuum port on it for this hose so something is still missing from the puzzle. Likely not the original air cleaner after all???
You will see in my picture on that the engine is a 390 with a Holley carb. Super-easy to identify by the "Holley" cast into the carb bowls. I am not certain, but I think the only 4 barrel carb that was used on a 390 was the Holley carb. Another member may be kind enough to correct me on that.
