Reese Hitch Install for 94 Flareside question

I have a 94 F-150 Flareside ext cab, I bought a reese reciver hitch from walmart and I ran into a problem. My truck has dual exhaust and the instructions that came with it does not say anything about installing with the dual exhaust.

The question that I am asking is, if I would be able to move it back towards the front of the truck to past the exhaust mount and if i do that would it be ok or would it be to far under the truck to work?

The part number for the reese hitch is 37096

If I were going to "adjust" something, it would be the exhaust.... It sounds like you have an aftermarket exhaust system that was not designed to be used with a receiver hitch....

The hitch needs to be postitioned at the correct spot to function properly. I had to drop the tail pipe where it goes over the axle so it could clear my gooseneck hitch...

There is some leeway on where you can drill the mounting holes, I have adjusted my installation when I used the same hitch on 4 different OBS trucks with stock and custom exhausts. It's not an exact science.

+1 I've moved one hitch from I couldn't hazard a guess how many trucks at his point, even mounted it upside down in the bed for a salt spreader at one point.

Universal model (half the money the stocker at the time but just as heavy built), pretty much exact same thing as factory receiver, frame mount flange turned "out" each side rather than "in" about the only difference.

Instructions had ya drilling the hole for the rear most bolt at the very end of the flange on the frame just behind the last rivet leaving hardly any metal behind it, about 1/4" to end of rail. (had 1/2" flat stock spacers to space it down rather than those little half moon cut outs the stocker has fit around the rivets mounted right up tight to the frame).

I didn't like that at all especially knowing first job it was going to tow a bulldozer, fairly large one with 6 way blade on it (I mention that as that blade weight almost as much as the dozer it was on!).

Anyway I moved it forward get more of the frame with that last bolt, forward of that last rivet instead of behind it.

Only "issue" if wanna call it that was had to by long reach hitches for it, the shorties the top lip hit the factory bumpers hitch plate that little lip rolled down at its rear most edge. (I could have spaced it down another 1/8" to clear it)

Put it on how you want it, get it up there held in place with a jack or a couple of c clamps whatever. You can space it down from the frame some if you wish just be sure to use solid spacer and grade 8 bolts. Double triple check everything before you drill the holes, check your hitch fitment of those you intend to use etc, do that first and you won't have any problem.
