hi, i have a 2002 f250 5.4L. when i bought the truck used the power mirrors never worked. i tried replacing the fuse(does not have a relay), the switch and the mirror. none of those worked. when i unplugged the harness that goes into the switch and jumped the terminals i made it work, though that did blow fuses. not sure why. i thought for sure it was another bad switch but it wasn't. im at a complete dead end. please help. thanks
Get a voltmeter or testlight. Do you have power on the orange/lightgreen wire? If so, then check power on this wire again, but ground your meter or testlight only to the black wire up at the switch. See if you still have power using that ground.
im sorry i forgot to mention that i put a volt meter to it also. i was getting the proper 12 volts, 11.78 to be exact. the voltage did not drop when i moved the switch. i also checked the pinch points between the door and the frame and that seemed to be ok. i have 2 thoughts left then im out of ideas. either its a bad ground, which i have no idea where it grounds at or something is wrong on the passenger side. i dont know if they run in parellel or not. i appreciate you helping me.
Look for a black wire at the switch, that will be the ground. Use that for your meter. If you still get 12v with your other test using this black wire, then we can assume it's good.
