My EGR Valve took it out because I'm getting hesitation on the gas and ive never passed inspection. Can I dunk this thing in carb cleaner dip or are there rubber bits inside? How can I properly clean it? Should I just buy a new one? And if so how do I go about finding the right part number? Napa had about seven different options for me.
Don't dip it in any fluid, you will definitely ruin it that way. If the engine idles smooth, and you can reach up under there with your fingers and push up on the diaphragm and make the engine stall out, the EGR is probably good.
Hook it up to a hand-operated vacuum pump and watch the diaphragm, then see if you can easily blow air through it when the valve is open and not when it's closed.

Some valves you can do a vacuum test, a lot of the ones Ford used you cannot. I found this out the hard way when I took one apart to see what was going on with it. That's when I found out the vacuum to the diaphragm is regulated by exhaust pressure. When there is no exhaust pressure on the valve, it bleeds all the vacuum off and it won't work. So you cannot really bench test these units.
Thanks guys, unfortunately I blasted it with brake cleaner before i read this post so hopefully it wasnt too much, a bunch of crap came out though and it did reveal a part number so i was able to order a replacement it's comin' in the mail soon. I haven't even test driven yet so im hopin it works
