Thinking of buying my first powerstroke..its a 2011 with 66k on it. Ive been reading about a lot of problems with these motors. Are they all bad? this is a huge purchase for me and don't want the thing costing bankruptcy. Haven't kept up on these engines much. what should I look for on it..???
Get the VIN number and get an OASIS report run on it. that will show what service work has been done by Ford. I own a 2011 F350 and couldnt be happier. No major problems. The one you are looking at should have the remainder of the engine warranty to 100K.
If it were me, I would get the report and see what it has been in for, I would look to see(if noticeable) if it has had a tuner on it or any other modifications. If it has been in an accident, or has had major engine work, then I would probably stay away from it.
I bought an '11 F350 Lariat in December, had 66000km on it at the time and came with ext warranty and the service plan. So far so good but I haven't put a lot of km's on it yet.
I had a 11 f250/SC/Lariat with 68k and never a motor issue. Had an AC compressor go out twice, and burned through a lot of tires but never any real big issues.
I would get the vin # and take it to a ford dealer and just plain tell them your looking at that truck and ask if they wouldnt mind running oasis on truck for you.to see if it shows any major problem prior, Its no big deal.

I'm personally curious as to what "a lot of problems" you've read about.....prevailing consensus I'm aware of is that these motors are some of the best currently out. Yeah they've got some EGT sensor problems, and the occasional radiator failure, but the core 6.7 itself to my knowledge has been a great motor so far
If the truck is not under a Ford extended warranty, I wouldn't touch it but that's just me. I wouldn't own this truck and most any newer, crazy expensive vehicle without warranty coverage. Modern cars and trucks are expensive to fix.
the truck is very nice has scratches on the door that the dealers going to paint and a small transmission leak at the bellhousing they're going to fix and oasis is clean and I even called the original owner... said the truck was nothing by enjoyable...it was built 6/10. I think its a go
Well, as far as the sensitive fuel system goes, that's unanimous across all of "the big 3"'s product line. Just a byproduct of newer technology: tighter tolerance/more efficiency/longer life, but NO margin for error i.e. bad diesel. Upside to that is that others' comprehensive insurance has covered their random fuel system replacements due to bad diesel, as a last resort, if the station/vendor themselves wouldn't.
For the rods and engine failure.... I've got nothing, your findings are news to me.
But it sounds like you're gonna get a helluva truck, and search this forum (after you post up pics ) for Ford ESP warranty coverage. I've extended my warranty out to 2016/126k total miles.
i have a 11 with almost 60k and will have had it for 4 years in sept. i only had a radiator issue. i also would not put much stock in some of the other forums out there, i read a post just two days ago on another forum that said "my friends friend is a mechanic at a ford dealership and has been replacing at least 2 6.7s motors twice a week for about a year now" it went on and on but said his friends friend was replacing about 2 MOTORS twice a week, I personally find that BS and don't believe it. i think you will find some of the guys on here are very professional and knowledgeable on these motors. it sounds like you may have found a good truck with good info. good luck with it, hope you get it.
i ran my truck last summer for 19 hours and almost 800 miles only shutting it off once in that time frame for food, kept it running during fill ups also had a 5k trailer on it the entire time, ever since that day i fully trust my truck and that was prior to deleting the egr and dpf.
