I believe he may be talking about the valve failures is a few of them that caused total engine failure. I even posted a pic of the rods that came out of one of our trucks. IF that is what he is talking about, it is VERY rare. Like has been stated, these engines have been very reliable, just EGT sensor failures are up a bit, but that is happening with GM too.. A camping buddy of mine bought an '11 FX4 F350 SRW with 48k miles on it, so I couldn't let him out do me, so I bought a 6.7 too. With our fleet, at both of my services, other than one engine failure(valve) and EGT sensors, nothing has gone wrong with the 6.7s.
blackbeest, sensitive fuel system, throwing rods, total engine failure.... btw looking at the identical truck u have
Sensitive fuel system, there has been a few issues here where people have gotten water in their fuel, its an expensive repair, but most here have had insurance cover it.
Throwing rods. I have only heard of that happen on trucks where the have more than 600rwhp (i.e. more than just what a Minimaxx/delete can do). I don't think anyone on this forum has had it happen, but I have heard of one truck were that occurred. He had 650rwhp.
Total engine failure. There were some instances of dropping exhaust valves on the drivers side bank, which caused some carnage. If the truck vibrates at all while regen, there is a TSB to replace the exhaust valves.
Thanks everyone. i talked to a service manager today who pulled the oasis report for me today..says he doesn't see a lot of those trucks in there for much of anything. Fuel filters every 15k, drain water once a month, and oil when light comes on? Should I add a fuel supplement?
Most of us use some type of supplement. I use Power Services Diesel Kleen white bottle below freezing and grey bottle all other times, or Ford's additive when I get by a dealer.
I have an 11 350 built job 1, which means built 8/10. I have had only minor issues, most were covered as far as engine. Had I to go back to when I bought, I should have purchased EX warranty just so I can sleep better, but really I have not had any real problems. I love this truck and so will you!!
I purchased a 2011 w/59k. I got the Ford EW out to 108k cost $1200 but that covers BTB. I figured it's a small price to pay for an expensive used truck. I had to replace the water in fuel sensor and its pigtail wire harness earlier this month. I agree with most guys on here, do as much research as you can and try to get something with at least a year or two remaining on the warranty.
The 2011 fell through. I ended up finding a 2013 xlt, with 30k on it for same price. Love this effing truck so much. Coming from a 5.4....the 2011 was leaking trans fluid, turned out it was from the torque converter. They wanted to make the repair and pawn it off on me, not a good way to start a 40k purchase... found this 13 at a ford dealer and got the 7yr/125k for 2500!!! Couldn't be happier!.. now if spring would just come to northeast Ohio!!
