One problem after another

Got my freeze plug in finally. Tested with water, and now I have a another leak coming from under the crank balancer. I'm pretty sure it's my water pump. There shouldn't be a freeze plug up in there should it? It's a drip every sec.. If I get a new pump I'm replacing the thermostat. What temp should I get. I have the 7.3. The only thing I pull is my 15 ft bass boat. Has a really low geared 4 speed manual. Another question is how should I water/antifreeze ratio my radiator. How many gallons? Thanks and sorry for the long thread

These engines do well with a 190* thermostat, when you replace ONLY use the Motorcraft brand. Lots of guys have had problems with overheating with after-market brands.

There should not be a freeze plug there. Sounds like a water pump or a water-pump gasket.
The cooling system takes around 6 gallons of antifreeze. I mix mine so it is around -30 protection which is usually good enough for my area (we had 2 weeks around -15* to -25 temps this winter so it was getting close).

Also, for coolant use Fleetguard or another coolant designed for diesel engines. Our engines need the SCA additives as they can have cavitation issues.

ford or international thermostat only. aftermarket t-stats do not work in our engines.
if i remember correctly, the proper t-stat is 195 degrees.
and no freeze plug on the front of the engine.
what you have sounds like a bad water pump leaking out of the weep hole.

coolant should be around 8 gallons with a drained block.
if you just drain the radiator around 6 gallons.

mix either 50/50 with water, or buy premixed. either way, spend the extra money and get the fleetcharge SCA precharged antifreeze.
