I have motorcraft wires on my truck right now. The coil wire's connector (the barrel that inserts into the coil) likes to shrink as it gets warm and causes intermittent no starts and the like.
My truck is just a driver. Got a 351M in it. Stock ignition. Replacement coil (the cheap kind).
Hoping to get wires to block the electrical noise from them.
Don't need a set of $150 plug wires by any stretch, but I don't wanna skimp on them and have to replace them 3 months from now.
Whatever brand O'Reilly's happens to have for 50 bucks, because that's what I'm willing to pay. How specifically is electrical noise manifesting? Are you hearing it on the radio?
Yes the radio has a nice fuzz/hum to it at certain times. I used to have some el cheapo plug wires on it from advance auto parts but the connections went bad at the plug boot after 3,000 miles.
O'Reilly should have the Borg Warner wires. Haven't used them though. Personally I run Accel wires. I've never had a single issue with them. Custom fits for my '79 302 are around $40ish
Motorcraft on the 73 and 68, Autolite on the 70, AC-Delco on the 71, Accel on the 65, factory Ford on the 01, and factory Chrysler on the PT. Bosch on my old race car. The riding mower is factory Briggs & Stratton.
I had lifetime warranty autolite wires from checkers (now oreillys) for about 10 years. After the boots coming apart during removal so many times I said no more cheap wires-yes I used dielectric grease and a wire puller.
I bought some ford racing wires and they have been excellent for not coming apart. The only downside is they are 9mm and most wire loom holders are too small. I ended up buying some taylor wire looms and drilled them out. I would definitely recommend them they are priced less than you would think plus they can be ordered precut. The lengths on my 460 set were a way better fit than any set oreillys ever had.
Well when my truck had spark plugs, I used Taylor about eighty BUCKS 8.8 MM Fit good, ran good and looked great. But alas the cummins doesn't run spark plugs!
Belden wires. They're the premium ones sold at NAPA. Used it on my 460 truck and now on my 300 truck. Things work great, but I don't have radio/speakers to pickup on any electrical noise :P
The one's on my '77 351M are blue, are silicone, have nibble marks where squirrels chewed on them some (but I covered those spots with some black tubing I slit on one side), they have black upper boots, brown silicone rubber lower plug boots, and the core is impregnated resistor core. They have been on the truck since the '80s, I think there was a brand called "Super Stock" maybe?
I still have OEM coil, standard Autolite plugs, no misses, and no radio noise.
