need advice

hey guys I have a 69 ranger long bed in excellent condition save for faded paint it is a 300 six with 3 on the tree I don't really like the 3 on the tree. I know I have options such as a five speed manual or automatic question is which would be my cheapest option. I already know that it will cost 550 bucks just to switch the steering column out to make it automatic I have a brand new power steering gear box ready to put in the local pull it yourself yards pricelist lists trannys for 150 bucks if I went with a five speed I would like it to look as if it had always been there thanks in advance

Whats your problem with the 3 on the tree? The tranny or the shifter? What are you trying to accomplish? You're way to vague.

And when you respond to the above questions, proper grammar would be appreciated. Don't make it hard for us to help you. That is unfair.

What ever you do is all up to you to make it all look like it's all OEM installation.

I suggest you use the search engine at the top of this page. Check out some builds and see how others did it and how much they spent. This way you can choose the avenue which best fits you.

I would think that the most straightforward junkyard swap in your case would be to find a 96 or older f150/250 with a 300,302, or 351w and a m5r2 5 speed. They have a hydraulic release bearing, but if you are taking the tranny out of a donor truck, you could grab the master cylinder and the line also. I know i saw a thread on mounting the master cylinder in the older trucks, i just don't remember if it was on this site. Then, you will need to find a driveshaft that will work, have one made, or have yours modified. You may have to modify your tranny crossmember, or at least slide it back and drill new bolt holes. Then there is the shifter. It would probably work as-is, but if you are looking for on original look, you could fab a 4 speed shifter onto it because the shift tower location is pretty close to that of an np435 or a t18.

I've put a little research into this setup because that's kind of what I am doing. I just had to get the 97+ model tranny so it would bolt up behind my 4.6L.

If you don't have the pitman arm on that gearbox think of that.I think the arm is PS specific.

You will either have to seriously mod your existing steering column or find one out of a donor truck to switch to p/s. I paid $25 bucks at a you pull it yard for a '79 steering column that was automatic. HIO was kind enough to post a link on hooking up the wires, was about the easiest thing I have done so far.......
