I need to replace the air filter on my 2001 F150. Fram is on sale at K-Mart. I am down on them for cheapening their oil filters, but does anybody know if this has affected their air filters as well?
I certainly wouldn't want to risk my truck for a few bucks, but I don't want to spend more than necessary either.
I think the Fram air filters are pretty good. I usually smear a little grease around the perimeter of the filter to improve the seal. Every Ford air filter box has always sucked dirt At least the ones I owned, This helps a bit. My 88 T-Bird didnt even have a filter in it when I bought it!, Drove it for 15,000miles and who knows how long before I bought it. The intake was caked with mud and sand. Still ran like new, 175,000 Really tuff miles! Still is running today! I think as long as you catch the big stuff its all good!
I have always used Fram air filters 'cause thay are so darn cheap and easy to find at wallworld. I have not done used oil analysis to check for dirt, but my motors run long and strong.
I think I have had 5 different oil analysis tests done for my truck. All have been done on oil run while using standard paper element Fram air filters. Never anything from the used oil analysis to make me question their performace. I continue to use them.
