Hey guys, I'm restoring a 73 f100 with a 302 and a C6. Truck ran and drove "OK" to start. Reach the part of the resto to mate the trans to the motor after rebuilding with a namebrand kit following the Haynes manual overhaul instructions. Everything went smooth, filled the transmission as stated in the manual, 4qts, start motor, dump 3 more, go through gears, check level and adjust. Dipstick reads way! high. Go through the gears again thinking I just have air somewhere, nothing changes. I can feel the shift lever moving the linkage and even did it manually to make sure(its not a linkage issue) but the motor just keeps running like theres nothing behind it, not a little bump into gear or anything. Im out of ideas. SUMMED UP: rebuilt trans with fluid that should read low reads way high and will not go down, transmission in dead in the water. Also front pump gears looked good during rebuild. Please help, Im losing my mind.
did you refill the torque converter prior to install and did you feel the different steps/notches as you put the T/C into the transmission to make sure you engaged the T/C into the pump. If not, that will be why your pump is not pumping the tranny fluid and you are reading high
Yes, the second time. Destroyed the tc first attemp, thus the rebuild(with a new tc). Slipped all the way in, engaging the pump, and filled with fluid.
