Yesterday I noticed the od wire at the end of my shifter were broke in half.well in the process of moving them they shorted together knocking out my speedo and all other gauges except oil pressure and tach.I checked all fuses but can't find any bad ones.the od wires stil have power but can't figure out how to get the cluster working again.can some o e shine some light on this so I can get it working again?
With ignition key to run, do all the checkout lamps turn on?
Does the motor start?
Can you trigger the Dash HEC diagnostics by pressing and holding the reset button before turning on the key?
If yes what actions do you see?
Have you checked associated fuses by more than looking at them?
A lead could have burned open.
We need to find a starting point for the issue.
Good luck.
Next go into the Dash diagnostics and see what happens stepping through the tests with the reset button.
Test step bulb; do all indicators light?
Test step to dtc and press reset button again. Does a code show?
Test step to fuel. Does a number appear in the mileage readout representing the fuel tank level?
.
You are spot checking the ability of the dash processor to function and display.
This determines if the dash is faulty and needs to be replaced.
If so, a dealer has to reprogram with replacement dash cluster and do the PATS keys with any new programming.
Good luck.
my truck is a 99 Super Duty F 250. Let me start from scratch. Yesterday I noticed that my overdrive button in the end of my shift to handle was not functioning.I then spotted that the wires or seven and a half at the base of the shifter handle. When I touch those wires they shorted against the colum.I noticed then gauges were none functioning.I got a test light proceeded to check all fuses inside and under the hood.can't find a bad one.also checked the broken wires that are broken and wierd part is they have power.don't know where to go fron here
Without your year and model I may have not been of much help.
Just took a chance you had a 150 with the equipage.
On the shifter, the Lamp and OD switch are two separate functions.
A ground out of power to the lamp would either blow a fuse or possibly open a lead at some other point.
The switch function signals the PCM to disable allowing OD to function.
This is not a permanent action because it auto resets each time the ignition is turned off.
Good luck.
