Engine dies

Still learning how to work on these things. Still a beginner but I've come a long way, so be patient with me!

My 79 is almost new from top to bottom. Long restoration project. It has a 400 in it, completely rebuilt and beefed up as much as reasonably possible. I have been driving it with no issues for about a year then, about a month ago, it just dies while in town. At first it was every once in a while, now all the time.

When it dies, it just shuts off. No sputtering like it's starving for fuel. Then it's hard to start again. Once it starts I smell a strong fuel smell briefly but then it runs fine until it cuts out again. I just replaced sending units about 2 months ago and know it's not the fuel lines. Carb has been checked numerous times by people who know what they are doing and they say it's working fine.

I need some suggestions. Getting frustrated ! Seems like if
It's not one thing it's another.

when it won't start have you checked to see if you have spark?
Not sure what you mean about how replacing sending units has led you to eliminate fuel lines?

I meant that the sending units were faulty and so were replaced along with fuel lines. The auxiliary tank was rarely used and rusted badly. I replaced that too.

ICM? I'm not familiar with the acronym. What is it?

"Ignition Control Module", or just IM aka "brain box". It is the small square box on the dvrs side inner fenderwell with the one elec connector going to it.
