I see a lot of keyless remotes for sale on e-bay for about $10 bucks.
Does anyone know for sure if they all can be programed to work
on my 99 exp. xlt. or does it take a certian number type?
Thank's
I am pretty sure they are specific to a model year. My 97 had a 3 button remote, later years had 4 buttons. Which year corresponds to what remote, I am not sure of..........
I am currently shopping on EBay for remotes/keys for my EXPY. Expect to pay between ~$6 and $16 for remotes and ~$10 to $20 for keys (you have to cut). Some say that the FCC code on the back must match your original remote, others say that if the remote looks similar it will work. I made sure that the FCC number on back matched my originals. Self programming is simple and instructions can be found on the net.
My 99 Taurus came with one remote/key set when i bought it, and finally realized (Thanks to this Forum) that if i lost it, i would have to pay the dealer ~$150 for programming a new key. I went to a local locksmith (with a key programming handheld machine) and in 15 minutes and $45 later i had a second key. I have purchased 2 more remotes/keys sets for the Taurus for $28 total (great deals off EBay). So for $70 I got 3 extra key/remote sets, And the money I save will be used to buy gas for the 4 July road trip…
Advice:
1. When you buy a used car/truck, insist on getting at least 3 keys/remote sets. This is also a good selling point if you plan to sell the car/truck.
2. Search EBay for: Expedition Remotes, Ford Remotes, “Your specific FCC number for your remote”,FORD PATS, Transponder Keys...
3. WATCH the auctions for Keys and remotes for a few days to a week (using the WATCH function in EBay) to get an idea of selling price so you can strategically bid on what you want and get the good deals.
Thank's KR1. At this time I do not have a remote, So I have no ideal what the FCC # is are where to find it. I bought the exp third party so very difficult to locate any help from pass owners.
