I removed the panel that surround the head unit and A/C vents, installed the U shapes removal tools and no go. The removal tools seem to penetrate the face by about and inch or so and 'feel' like they are shoving some type of fastener clip or something out ove the way but the head unit will not come out.
The pointed, highly detailed ends of the tool appear to indicate that they might engage something special but if they do, I can't tell.
For those of you who might have done this a couple of times before: do you you have any advice for me? The unit wilggles a little bit but will not come out. The instructions say to insert tool, grasp firmly and pull out. But if you pull on the tools, it just pulls the tools out.
Place the tools curved end facing inward. Insert both tools this way. Once the tools are in, push both of them out, (in the direction of the door), then pull outwards to you. Should pop right out....
Bigger Hammer theory ALWAYS works... Now you may not be able to get it back together, but apart ..... When you are done with the install (I'm assuming you are replacing the HU) please post your impressions on the install kits ... Mine SUCKS... I've been back in 3 times trying to get it "just right" and it still shakes
ExpyBoy: Actually I only wanted to remove it to order an adapter so I may connect and MP3 player (PC actually) to the CD input.
BigMatt: Now that I've done it I suspect I might be able to do the same. But, I just can't resist collecting special tools. Hey, that sounds like a good topic.
