I have been chasing down gremlins in my rear ac and one of them is that the air coming out of the 4 rear ducts seem very low (in volume) when the fan is on the high position. I can hear the fan spinning loudly in the rear but the air seems just like a slight breeze out of the front 2 vents and the rear are only slightly stronger. I had a 00 Ex back in 07 and don't remember how fast the air came out but in my 06 Explorer and 03 Navigator when the rear fan was on high I could feel a good blast coming out all rear vents. What should I start to look at?
Look at the actuators . Milky white rectangles. The one closer to the front is the blend door for floor or up top IIRC. See if it is dead by taking it off and watch the **** to see if it turns. If not, switch the two around and see if that changes anything.
My 1st Ex had a strong smell when the rear ac/heat was turned on. It was kept out in a field where it sat for awhile before I bought it and I always suspected one of these lived/died in the ducting.
Mine has gremlins too, it seems to be stuck on cold air no matter what I do...and when it his 40 degrees in FL I need HEAT! Help!
I would feel bad for you if I didn't have the same thing happen to me when it was -25F while it was going on.
Pull the passenger side cover off enough to get to the actuators. If the fan is running, and it is cold or weak air output, take the actuators off and mark the shaft with a sharpie and see if it moves when you turn the temp/level *****. If it doesn't move, switch where they are and see if it helps. I had no heat, but could control floor vs. ceiling. I took the other one and put it on the hot/cold position, and at least had hot air coming out slowly from the ceiling. Hot was more important than where it was coming from to me. I ordered the new one and it works great now.
I normally just check the front ducts with my long arms while sitting in the drivers seat. Yesterday I got in the middle seat and felt both the front and rear ducts when on hi and the overhead vent detents. Originally my complaint was the air was warm in the summertime now it seems that it cold in the winter time. It takes a while for my dash heat to blow hot so next time I got it running hot I will pull over and get in the middle row and check it out. Honestly I never checked the floor ducts in this (or any of my vehicles) so I guess I will have to get down low and check those too.
Thanks
