that is what I thought at first. But when looking more on the internet I cannot find anything on the 2000 ranger just newer ones. The kit is just a light that tells you that it is in neutral but for the life of me I cannot find the plug that I need to plug the light in and no dealers around here seem to be of any help. If I could just find the right wires to get the light connected than I could take it in and get reprogramed.
Yea I have looked and looked for that plug and can't find it. I also found that just answer post too and I took out my radio and looked at my 4wd module but I have 4 plug ins on it one 26 pin plug, 16 pin plug, 22 pin plug and a 18 pin plug on the bottom. And in the picture it shows a 17 pin plug that you put a wire in pin 3 and one to the battery. The 4wd module part number is YL5T-14B205-EB.
So your saying that you've yet to find the Grey connector thats attached to the main wiring harness, or to the center dash support structure??? The instruction illustration shows its location to be above, to the right of the brake pedal, in or close to the crotch/bend of the dash support, or the main wire harness. So remove the bezel trim piece that holds the radio, heater/ac controls, to open up that area better & I'll bet you can find it.
Yea I can't find the gray plug. I have my radio out and looked for it there and that is where the 4wd module is at but I will have to take a few more things apart. There is a wiring harness back further that I felt around on but I am going to have to take a closer look at it. It has to be there tucked away somewhere.
The instructions say its attached to the Main wiring bundle, & the illustration shows it on, or around the large wiring run, close to the dash support that has that curved knee in it. The illustration shows the dash support knee & wiring bundle containing the connector to be to the right of & above the brake pedal & toward the cab side surface of the dash, rather than toward the firewall. So when your looking in from the radio opening, it should be located to the center/upper left of the opening.
Let us know where you finally locate that puppy!!!!
The control module on the firewall behind the radio, that needs to be reprogrammed, is the GEM (Generic Electronic Module), its a busy piece of equipt, has control over lots of things.
I have seen the instructions on where the gray plug is supposed to be or that 17 pin plug and I took the radio out and the plastic around it. Looked all over in there and under the dash and there is no gray plug or 17 pin plug. I think that the 2000 model year doesn't have it.
The 16 pin connector is the Data Link Connector (DLC) mounted below the dash to the left of the steering wheel. Its where we plug our scan tools or code readers in.
Not sure what to tell you, or suggest at this point about not being able to find the grey connector. I'll have to think about this some more. Maybe someone reading this thread that knows will chime in & post up some info, or shoot you a PM.
