too hot for my explorer??
i have the 2003 V8 NBX package. A few days ago, in 90 degree weather, on acceleration, the engine was really really loud. The temp. gauge was fine but was it too hot for the engine?? Any thoughts? - Pete

I'll bet you had your AC on (since it was in the 90's). When you say loud, did you hear a roar? If so, it was probably your engine driven fan. the extra heat load dumping onto your clutch engaged it so that you got the airflow needed to keep the AC working.

If that's the noise I'm thinking of, my present and previous X both did it when it was hot out. Does it make this sound when you accelerate just after start up, or continually? When mine would do it, it would just be when accelerating after starting the engine.

It's normal. Be reassured that the sound you hear means your fan is working. Are you used to driving cars with electric fans? Most people who go from electric fanned vehicles to engine driven wonder the same thing as you.
