My 7.3idi is shaking pretty good and I just cant figure it out. Out on the road its fine till your stopped. Other than the shaking it runs good lots of power and no smoke. The engine is a jasper re-man with about 21,000 miles on it. I recently put in a re-man injector pump and brand new Delphi injectors which made it worse. So I sent the pump and injectors back to the fuel shop to have them tested and they said they were great no problems at all.
So I have been going through the engine: checked compression (lowest is 500psi highest is 515psi), I pulled the valve covers and valley pan off to make sure everything was fine there, checked fuel pressure (about 5psi), did clear line test on fuel system, made sure timing gears were lined up, adjusted timing in small increments till I couldn't go any more in both directions (because I don't have a timing meter) and I have come up empty handed.
I have noticed that when I start it cold it runs pretty smooth for the first 15-20 seconds then it starts shaking.
I would greatly appreciate any input you guys have.
The lever on the driver's side of the pump will retard your timing by a number of degrees. You can play with it that way, by pushing it in and seeing what happens.
Also, you might try turning up the idle screw a little; in case it's just running a little too slow.
Thirdly, you can try disconnecting the return line from the top of the IP, and running it into a jug. Make sure your return line isn't clogged or something(which will really screw with timing and running; our pumps run on pressure difference).
does your truck have a dual mass flywheel? this can cause a problem like what you describe. engine will seem to rattle and shake at idle after the cold idle cell goes down. you can replace or convert to single mass.

yes sorry my bad I didnt catch that. Ive never owned an automatic but I wonder if anything in the torque converter could act up in the same way? anyways I'll be curious to hear how it turns out. good luck.

Well I got all my stuff in and put it back together using the used pump from eBay and it still shakes. It might be a little less shaking than before but its still there.
I put the return line from the pump in a jug, ran it and that didn't change it either.
Also adjusted the idle to several different positions and it shakes worse with lower rpms.
I can here a slight thud noise standing outside the truck if I go inside and put it in gear it gets louder inside. I'm not sure if something is rubbing somewhere or what. I cant find anything touching anywhere.
Right now the marks are lined up but I have adjusted it to several different positions and it doesn't make a difference.
From what I can tell its only 1 cylinder or some kind of balance issue that's causing this. I have tried loosening the lines and found there's 3 cylinders that make it shake the same just worse when a line is loosened and the rest act like 2 lines are loosened when only 1 is loosened. Not sure what that means.
One time I had an issue with bad fuel causing a sticky injector. They were fairly new and I knew my timing was good. Try the old sea foam trick; fill the fuel filter with sea foam and run the motor for a minute or so then let sit for half an hour. After sitting long enough take the truck out and hammer down.
I noticed today that if I hold my hand up to the exhaust while its running its not all even. I also removed the air cleaner and put my hand over the intake and that felt smooth.
