8K for new exhaust manifolds

Hello,

I am seeking some helpful advice regarding my situation. I currently have my 89 E350 motorhome (59,000 mile)at the local Ford dealership. I have the dreaded passenger side exhaust leak. The leak is at the manifold. I have an estimate of $8,300.00 to replace both manifolds. The motorhome is in great shape.

They stated the motor would have to come out. I just dont have the time to work on this myself.

Is this a fair price?

Thanks All!!

NO! Motorhomes engines don't last long, and by the time you burn the manifolds off the engine there's not much life left in the old gal anyway. There getting you for labor hrs when you could get a new crate Engine and Manifolds for less........Find a better Dealer or Shop!

get away from the dealership. maybe a mid-heavy truck shop. as stated a new crate engine at $8K sounds reasonable,

This estimate sounds like a "We'll quote you a price so high that maybe you'll go somewhere else to have the work done because we really don't want to bother with it but if you do let us do the work we'll make money doing it." kind of price.

JimB is spot on. The shop doesn't want to do it.

Do you have an RV-specific shop/dealer in your area? If not, a medium-duty truck shop would be the next choice.

Better yet, take the truck to an exhaust shop.
