i forgot to post this, but i consistantly got betwen 10-12 and i think i can do better. i tried to change my driving style and it didnt help, i aired up my tires, didnt help...i do live where there are some minor hills but i usually keep it between 1/4-1/2 throttle so im not to hard on it. any ideas why it get such poor milage? truck has 31s and 3.55 rears...it pulls hard and runs strong other wise...
also, it seems that my rear tank gualge or sender is messed up, when i fill it, it reads a little above 3/4 and when i accel it goes to middle and when i decell it dips down low to around 1/2...i didnt notice that on my front tank but if there is a problem im gunna change both of em at once...any ideas?
PS: dont have my truck as of yet and wont for at least 3 more days (gettin painted)...
I ran some fuel injector cleaner through mine and noticed better mileage on my next tank. If you have a carburated engine, run some carburater cleaner through it.
I was getting 11 miles a gallon
things i did
checked my plugs - they were white which meant it was too lean
changed plugs
new wires
and injector cleaner
also changed my pcv valve - it had the original one on there oops
now im getting around 15-18 mpg
basically a minor tune up
i was going to do a tune up but everything seems to be in fine working order and i add fuel injector cleaner everytime i change my oil (3000ish miles).
also, i dont know when all my sensors (02, PCV valve) were changed last so i might go ahead and change em out when i do finally do my tune up before college
I still haven't fine tuned my Holley 390, but on the last four tanks, I've see-sawed between 15 and 16 MPG. With a 5,000 lb (?) Bronco, (3.50's & 31"s), it seems like I should be getting about the WORST MPGs of the 1/2 ton vehicles...
I drive fairly conservatively, but can't resist "whompin" it a few times every day. The ONLY time I see 13 MPG's is with a long, heavy (trailer) haul - mostly because it will still pull like it's almost empty if I just give it a bit more gas.
Just did 516km and used 75 liters
err... thats 19.8 US Gals in 321 miles or 16.2 mpg
or put another way 16.5 British Gals in 19.5 mpg
This is almost twice as good as my last truck ( 81 F250 351M 4sp granny ) and the 300 is mucho quicker and faster. I reckon that with very careful driving I might get 25 mpg. The previous owner tells me he would get a regular 23mpg.
