Power Steering Pump

I will be upgrading to a CPP power steering kit and I have a question. I keep running across the Saginaw pumps. Are they the best? Is there a cheaper option that will work just as good and the bracket not cost so much? Thanks for whoever can help.

I have a Saginaw pump on the shelf and if I had a bracket, I'd put it on the truck in a heartbeat just to get rid of the "cool" supercharger sound the Ford pump makes.

I pulled a saginaw off of a Ford diesel (around 91, I think). I had to do some minor mods on the bracket, but it worked out fine and am using it with a Toyota box.

Saginaw pump has several advantages:
1. Most commonly used pump. I addition to all GM vehicles it was used on some models of Ford and Chrysler products.
2. Strong, durable, and inexpensive.
3. Pressure output easily adjusted.
4. Self contained.
5. Easily adapted.

Not yet. I'm thinking it was less than $60 at O'Reilley's. It was for an E-100 van ( I forgot what year).

I am using the Toyota box and Saginaw pump (thanks to Ax's recommendations). At Ax's urging, I made brackets for the pump because the engine in my truck has a high mount fan and none of the manufactured brackets would work. Nor did I want to spend the money.
I will have a total of $7.50 in the brackets. I do have a plasma cutter so was able to cut the brackets out of 1/4 inch metal plate. If you had to have them cut out by a welding shop the charge would be about $25 plus the metal.....still less than $40 instead of $135 or more.
I made up bracket patterns out of 1/4 inch plywood then transferred the pattern to the metal.
The brackets will be finished this weekend so I will then post some pictures of the brackets before and after installation on the Saginaw pump.
This is the first metal fabrication I have ever done and the most amount of time was spent laying out the design because there are no bolts on the engine that layout in a perfect alignment.
I will share the process when I post the pics in the hopes you can avoid some of the starts and stops that I encountered.
Again, I want to publicly thank Ax for his unrestricted access and willingness to help us.

Should be 1975-2005 Econoline. 1996 was the last year for gas engines and 2005 for diesel.
