I have an 89 f250 302. Went to get gas today and it wouldn't start. I'm getting spark and fuel. I pulled off the dist cap and sanded all the terminals and the tip of the rotor. I changed the fuel filter just incase and still nothing. I just got back from holidays so its been sitting for a week and half was running perfect when I left. I havent had an issue with weather before but it's about 0 celcius and we just got 8 inches of snow. Not sure if that would effect it or not.
I'm stumped any help would be great. I need the truck for work tomorrow morning!!!
Thanks
If there is fuel flow, have you been able to check fuel pressure?
Also, when you say "Went to get gas today and it wouldn't start." and " I just got back from holidays so its been sitting for a week and half was running perfect when I left." Does this mean that it died after driving it to the gas station, or that it was fine, sat for a week, then you went to start it after the week long sit, and it would not start?
After the week long sit it would not start. Was running perfect when I left. I pulled a plug and saw it spark when I turn it over. Changed the fuel filter ad had plenty of gas coming out also pushed the valve on the fuel rail and had lots spray out so plenty of pressure. Still can't start and after work today I tried again, still nothing and now I think my starter relay went again because it stopped turning over but still turns if I jump the terminals on the relay,... Just replaced relay again a couple months ago.
Also yesterday it did start to fire briefly and just barely ran for about 5 seconds then backfired and hasn't even started to fire since.
I changed out my ignition switch because it was so stiff that I was afraid of breaking the tang off the Ignition Lock Cylinder again. I also had trouble with it sticking in the start position.
After cranking the engine for a while and it not starting, do you smell fuel in the tail pipe(s)?
I would verify that the timing chain hasn't jumped. turn the engine to TDC #1 and check the timing mark. It should line up. then remove the dist. cap and see where the rotor is pointing, it should be #1. Also check if you can if the little window of the dist timing ring is lined up with the trigger under the rotor. This is what sends the signal to the computer to trigger the coil to fire.
Ok I just need a reminder, it's been a while since I've done this. To set #1 at tdc I should be able to set the 0 on the harmonic balancer to the pointer shouldn't I ???? Because I did that and it was showing nearly 180 degrees out which could t be right, what am I doing wrong???
Tomorrow I can grab m timing light and try that too but for now I don't have it with at home.

You are not doing anything wrong. You have to turn the engine over twice to get the rotor to make one complete revolution. The rotor drives off the camshaft, and the camshaft only makes one revolution for every two revolutions of the crankshaft. If you turn the engine(crankshaft) over one more turn the rotor will be pointing at the #1 position on the distributor cap.
Thanks for all the help !! My truck randomly started last night and so far it's still starting, but it doesn't want to when cold. I think it might Just have moisture in the fuel so I filled it up and put in sea foam. I can get to work now but when I hit the gas it almost dies and backfires, it's never done this before so I'm hoping it's just moisture. Does that sound right??
