It's not a problem. They spent his college fund on paint.
Dang near!!
Estimate was $7000 "at the outside". He was only off by about 75%.
So now Christian (my son) and I are doing some of our own metal straightening to try to lower the paint/body costs and get closer to budget. Learning a lot, that's for sure. But yet another delay.

Holy smokes, are you saying it cost near $12000 just to paint the cab and doors?
I see you are running A/C, please post pics when you do the install, I would like to see how well the unit fits in the truck and difficulty of install.

Pushing 12k for the whole truck, not just for the cab and doors. The cab and doors are all they have finished so far. I brought home most of the remaining sheet metal and my son and I are doing the straightening--which is actually proving to be pretty fun and really satisfying. It's fun to beat the crap out of something to make it do what you want! That is true on so many levels, but most of them will land you in jail! Anyway, we are hoping to get back below the 10k mark.
The moral of this story, for anyone reading this thread: Don't bother getting a paint and body estimate until you have media blasted the entire truck, otherwise the estimator isn't really estimating, he's wild-a$$ guessing. I think my guy shoulda known that, but alas...On the up side, these guys do incredible work.
A good friend of mine once said "When to pay for something, you always want it CHEAP, you want it FAST, and you want it GOOD. But you can only ever get two of the three." In this case I have only gotten one of the three. My paint and body work was neither cheap nor fast, but it is good work.
12K is not a bad price for a great paint job. At least not around here. 7 years ago I was quoted 16K for body and paint a 1976 BMW 2002 we had, and the body was in really good shape - no rust.
My 55 is the exact same color, mine has a bit of pearl and metallic in it, they called mine indigo blue metallic pearl. I paid 345 bucks a gallon and painted her in the garage myself. The paint color looks the same, I really like the white firewall, wished I would have thought of that.

That's a nice rig you've got there! Yeah the white firewall looks great. I just recently came up with that idea. I can't remember where I got it. I decided on the dark blue paint after I watched an episode of Overhaulin. The episode was called "Desperate Impound" and they painted a GTO a dark, midnite blue. It was so dark it was almost black. That's what I was shooting for on our truck, but I was paranoid about getting too dark. Now that the paint is on, it looks great, but I wish it was even darker. Oh well. T
I also like a white fire wall, inner fenders and a tan or lite colored engine.
Makes road side repairs at night with a flash light so much better.
Than as I am living where it is dark half the year one thinks of this stuff.
