diff tag

ok

Diff tag has the following

mfbaw1e26
(8/9)15095319(B/8)

anyone have any ideas, did search and 700 pages showed up. I'm needing to replace pinion and seals behind brake baking plate, but ford had three diffs, might have to wait till Monday to see if the ford dealership can look up tag info to tell me what seals I need. But just thought I'd ask here just in case.

The bed almost patched up thanks to a buddies plasma cutter and mig wielder, need more gas will have to finish this up after filling tank Monday.

Thanks again

Dan

What year truck? F150 or f250? More questions to come after these are answered. And, is the rearend original to this truck? If so, what is the axle code on the door jamb sticker?

Answers to Dave's questions will help a lot. I tried to find info on the #'s you posted in the parts catalog but couldn't as there are too many places to look. But with some answers maybe we can figure out what haystack to look in.

I have never seen numbers like those on any axle tag before, they don't look like the standard Ford or Dana identifiers.

I think those numbers are the BIL and not the tag. These are the numbers stamped into the axle tubes by Dana. You need to look in a Dana catalog or call some place that deals in rear end rebuilds like Inland Truck Parts. They can access the info fairly quick.

Door tags

Will look at door tags to see hopefully it has the original diff, I'm not sure where on the owners list I am.

I know the front drive shaft was replaced as it had markings from one of the salvage yards around here. Didn't see any on the rear drive shaft. Today will power wash the rear diff some more so see what markings are on them.

Currently I'm assuming there is really no outward visual differences between the 3, all internal.

There are outward differences. There are also differences if it's a f150 or f250. That would be a start, is it a f150 or a Bronco?

The BIL (build information label) is just that. I cant remember what the codes mean, but should spec everything about the differential.

Oh well I dont think the pinion seals and axle seals were different on any of the 9" rear ends. The Daytona might be different, but your pickup doesnt have one of those in it.

Here is something to think about though. If the pinion seal is bad then the bearings probably are also. When the bearings get loose the pinion shaft will wobble and ream the seal out. So more than likely you need a complete bearing set. The 9" has a third pinion bearing that helps to hold the shaft inline. So if it has worn the seal out then it more than likely does need some attention.

Only thing that makes any sense is 1E26 - Assembled May 26, 1981. The rest is gibberish.

Autozone lists 9 different rear axle seals for your truck. 4 of them are in stock at the store. You could take yours out and match it up.

They show 3 different pinion seals, one of them is kept in stock.

door sticker

bottom row left to right

117 f140 fb4 k h6 cy
under the axle in blue is H6

got drives shafts in looks like that the front drives side and rear passengers tires spin first, so at this time assuming non-limitied slip or standard diffs.
